“The wound is the place where the light enters you” - Rumi

In Ghana there is a symbol called Sankofa, translating loosely to “it is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten”. It is depicted as a bird turning backward to pick an egg from its tail while its feet continue pointing forward. It represents the wisdom to be gained by turning toward the past to make sense of its meaning and to use its lessons to move toward a future that feels aligned, fulfilling, and authentic.

Art Therapist Provisional (QTT)

I believe wholly in the therapeutic power of reconnecting with nature, artmaking, and imaginative play as spontaneous, process-focused, impulsive, and intuitively driven. Through these, we may recover, witness, and integrate aspects of the self that have been hidden from us by societal conditioning and trauma. Together, we may learn to become unconditionally compassionate witnesses to our own experience. By recognizing, accepting, and learning to hold our unique, innate ways of being, we may come into feelings of alignment and to cultivate trust in our original embodied wisdom.

Healing happens in relationship. As a therapist, it is an honor to walk alongside another on their journey back to themselves.

We are all learning how to be human…

There is a seed inside of each of us. If provided the proper conditions, the seed will sprout and grow toward its fullest potential. Unfortunately, these conditions, including our most fundamental need for safety, are not guaranteed. Without safety, learning, exploration, and curiosity become deprioritized in favor of survival. We absorb and internalize the stories we grow up hearing, the events we are made witness to. Our bodies hold memories that our conscious mind can no longer recall or put into words. We adapt out of necessity, and as we do, we grow away from recognizing our own innate preciousness. We survive, we keep running with little time to stop and rest.

Rest.

Therapy is a place to land. To slow down and allow for the body, heart, and mind to be as they are and to be held in their fullest expression.

As an extension of nature, we are perfectly imperfect.
